Purpose Statement
To perform installations, repairs and maintenance on all company civil structures, focusing on bricklaying, plumbing, carpentry and painting, in accordance with operational and safety procedures and processes, to ensure an uninterrupted supply of potable water to consumers.
1. Installation, Maintenance and Repairs
· Distribute works orders to Artisans and Tradesman for planned and unplanned maintenance as per schedules (Maximo) received for the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment
· Manage spares inventory to ensure that all equipment can be replaced, place orders for spares and follow up on orders
· Conduct inspections to inspect installations, maintenance and repairs carried by the Artisans and Tradesmen
· Verify that risk assessments have been conducted on the jobs
· Monitor the timeous completion of assigned works orders to ensure the work has been carried out in accordance with safety and standard operating procedures
· Coordinate associated maintenance activities and shutdowns with the relevant departments and consumers by issuing of shutdown notices in time and adhering to specified time frames
· Provide guidance and expert advice to subordinates on how to carry out installation, maintenance and repair work, specifically with problem solving to ensure correct execution of duties and assistance after hours on a standby basis
· Assist with the planning and execution of all project related work relating to the Department to ensure seamless integration of plant and equipment upon project completion
· Input into the compilation of Plans for new plant equipment and assist during the implementation and commissioning phases of the different related projects, performing special monitoring and tests to optimize the functioning therein
2. Safety, Health, Environmental, Risks and Quality (SHERQ) Compliance
· Conduct daily checks to monitor compliance with established SHERQ procedures to ensure that:
o physical conditions are maintained
o areas are safe for working
o staff adhere to standard operating procedures at all times
o tools and equipment are maintained and safely stored
o staff are wearing the appropriate protective clothing
· Participate in safety meetings for discussions on safety standards and procedures and to create safety awareness
· Communicate the importance of SHERQ principles within the section to promote individual responsibility
· Address any hazards / incidents / accidents / near misses which have been escalated
· Provide standard reported feedback to line manager on SHERQ metrics weekly
· Action audit issues identified within time frames indicated
· Promote projects and programs within the plant that provide continuous improvement in the areas of safety, environment, production and efficiency
3. Staff Supervision
· Monitor individual performance of subordinates, in accordance with performance objectives, daily
· Provide informal coaching to address needs identified, input into training requirements for subordinates and ensure training takes place as per Individual Development Plans
· Plan for allocation of resources and prepare standby rosters for review by line manager
· Prepare overtime paperwork for submission to the line manager for approval
· Participate in the recruitment of subordinates in collaboration with management and Human Resources
· Counsel subordinates as problems arise, recording details of the discussion in accordance with procedure
· Maintain staff discipline and resolve conflict situations in accordance with company policies and procedures
· Approve leave submitted, as per company policy
· Communicate changes in the work environment/management decisions to staff
4. Administration
· Assist with the compilation, monitoring for effectiveness and revision of Maximo for all the equipment and machinery relevant to the Department, identifying critical spares required for optimum operation of equipment
