Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to all students in the class Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities and achievement of the individual students and groups of students; adopting and working towards the implementation of the school's development programme
Lesson Planning
Classroom Management Skills- Class Rules and Routines to be abided by All learners thus taking responsibility for promoting good and courteous behaviour both in classrooms and around the school, in accordance with the school's behaviour policy
Establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly
Group and individual instruction - Enhance group activities to drive peer working groups, through learners contributing individual skills to group work Focus on individuals who are finding tasks difficult
Student relations - Be approachable in order to understand the different dynamics that scholars face both in class and at home WhatsAPP class groups also assist in driving communication with Parents, whether related to school activities or scholar performance updates
Adaptability & Growth Mindset - The current landscape requires one to be versatile and flexible, as we are faced with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures I have acquired these skills through my time practicing in both Model C type and a Quintile 4 School There is a massive gap of resources between these 2 types of school, which requires the educator to invest more time, and at times, own resources, in order to produce a highly proficient level of learners
As an aspiring educator i take pride in the development of learners as well as my own Currently i do daily activities with my kids to improve their proficiency levels, thus resulting into good grades My Ambition is to see myself contributing immensely in ways of teaching to a level where both quantile 4 and Model C schools' can compete in a fair manner
Communication Skills - It is critical to actively listen in order to analyze the understanding of concepts i am fortunate to have had the chance to observe in class, and one can deduce that both group and individual attention is required in any classroom
It is also of utmost importance that as an educator we show empathy and sympathise with our learners, this would involve both personal and school matters When you open your heart, you are more acceptable for people to share whatever issues they are faced with
It is also recommendable that one takes advice from mentors, peers and learners ( Constructive Feedback )- i take this as a 360 feedback, which allows me to grow further as an educator
Through showing Empathy, you are able to create a safe environment in the classroom - which is of utmost importance as other individuals do not have the psychological safety at home
I Am a joyful person, and believe that humour can keep communication light and fun Which helps in keeping the learners interested at all times
It is always advisable to stay level-headed - reduce noise or disruption in class which can lead to negative reactions such as yelling and anger
It is also critical to understand the body language of learners as well as yours In different cultures certain gestures are seen differently - One must be able to understand that eg in The English culture you must look each other in the eyes as a sign of respect, which is the total opposite in African culture whereby it is seen as disrespect
