In my current role as Equity Finance & Investments VP, my role includes the following key performance indicators:

• Focused origination,
• Mining existing portfolio for CIB opportunities across Corp Fin & Debt Solutions
• Execute on agreed client strategy with regular feedback to leadership team on quarterly basis on origination efforts and strategy
• Develop deep relationship and trust with targeted clients
• Production which yields annual fees of R15 - 20m, gross assets of R750 - 1 000m per annum, annualised NII of R25 - 30m

• Extensive legal review of facility agreements and security documents as well liaising with internal and external counsel
• Assessing appropriate transaction structuring for each transaction including the assessment of when preference share financing or term loan funding or an equity solution is required
• Managing pre and post deal admin including portfolio management
• Leadership responsibilities which cover the leadership and development of the junior transactors, collective leadership and collaboration with other lead transactors to share knowledge and coordinate origination efforts across thematics, coordinated approach on development of transactors and coordinated approach to client engagement and strategy
• Mentoring and supervising analysts and associates in the team and sharing best practice in terms of financial modelling, credit and investment paper writing, term sheet drafting, pricing, liaising with other sector teams, syndication, legal and advisory
  

I was promoted to Associate level in 2019 following my stint as Analyst in the team. I was sent on a valuations training programme ran by J.P. Morgan in London shortly thereafter.

The following summaries my key responsibilities in my previous role:

• Reviewing financial models, internal and external pitchbooks Reviewing NDAs drafted by analysts in the team
• Presenting the proposed trades to internal stakeholders
• Engaging with the client on the proposed trades Liaising with internal stakeholders including the investment banking legal team, the risk team, distribution / syndication teams, transactions capital management team, internal sector experts including project finance, oil & gas, debt capital markets, equity capital markets, mergers & acquisitions; and other experts in the broader bank in our Lagos, Nairobi or London offices Structuring the transaction including the type of instrument to be advanced for prospective clients, considering the legal, tax and exchange control implications of the trade
• Assessing pricing calculations ran by analysts for accuracy and commercial viability of proposed transaction as well comparing pricing to comparable deals or market pricing
• Considering potential cross-sell opportunities with other investment banking, global markets, corporate lending, wealth management and transaction product services which could be bundled to the trade and offered to the client
• Reviewing credit papers drafted by analysts before submissions to senior transactors and Equity Risk
• Assisting with the legal execution of the trade and liaising with the bank and the client’s external legal counsel to ensure the terms agreed with the client on the term sheet are accurately captured in the funding documents Portfolio management of the instruments advanced to clients to ensure that financial and other covenants are met
• Engaging with clients on daily / weekly deal updates, compiling due diligence scopes for transactions and liaising with client management and sponsors on deal execution

I joined the pre-eminent investment bank on the African continent during 2017. My initial role was an analyst role in the Principal & Structured Finance team. The team specialises in mezzanine finance as well as broader equity risk finance. I have been involved in a number of deals from inception at the risk management phase all the way up to the legal execution and pay away stages.

The deals I have worked on have been cross-border equity finance trades including Nigerian oil & gas and NBFIs, East African media and telecoms, South African renewable energy projects, listed REITs, industrials and NBFIs. My role on the transactions I have worked on include:

• Compliance checks
• Reviewing of non-disclosure agreements
• Performing due diligence on deals
  Building dynamic financial models for the proposed transactions
• Performing valuations on live transactions for determining range of equity finance the
• Bank could advance to the prospective client
• Engaging with the client on the proposed trades
• Co-ordinating logistics for the transaction
• Using the internal pricing metrics to price instruments to be used in transactions
• Compiling client pitchbooks detailing the trade, structure, instrument, pricing, funding
  profile and covenant measurement ratios
• Drafting credit papers to be presented to the bank’s credit committee and motivating
  for the transaction
• Assisting with the transfer of funds to the clients
• Compiling quarterly presentations, to be reviewed by management and to be presented to the bank’s exco, on the performance of the instruments the bank is exposed arising from the Principal & Structured Finance team

• I was one of the top performers during my three year articles at KPMG South Africa selected to undertake an international assignment with KPMG LLP. I worked for the Philadelphia practice for three months during the beginning of 2017.

My main responsibilities were as follows:

• Planning and co-ordinating logistics for audit engagements
• Meeting with the audit manager and partner on determining the audit strategy
• Meeting with the client to perform a preliminary risk assessment prior to the audit engagement commencing
• Auditing of complex accounting sections Execution of planned audit strategy, progress assessment and feedback to the client’s management as well as KPMG audit managers and partners
• Monitoring costs being incurred on the audit and comparing to budgets to identify shortfalls/overruns and overall efficiency of audits
• Motivating the audit team and working diligently to complete the audit engagement on time and within budget
• Performing a final assessment of the audit engagement and following up with the client’s management about payment of audit and other service fees
