I joined the vessel in South Africa and went through an extensive maintenance period. Following the month of work on the hard. We set sail to the north, this entailed sailing to Namibia - St Helena - Ascension - Cape Verde - Azores - France - Denmark - Sweden - Netherlands. As the captain of the boat, I was responsible for all the maintenance, navigation, cleaning and documentation. The vessel is a 56ft Oyster called S/Y Astahaya.
The delivery was from Cape Town, South Africa - Victoria, Seychelles. My responsibilities included: Preparing the vessel for departure (provisions, bunkering, covering the vessel, passage plan, preventative maintenance). Watch duties, safely navigating the vessel, sailing, cooking, all maintenance of the vessel and preparing for the handover.
I worked as a deck cadet for Meridian Adventure Sail for 21 months. Through this cadetship program, I was trained to be competent in engineering, deck, sailing, interior and service. My duties were regular maintenance of all equipment onboard, washdowns, teak scrub, polishing stainless and gelcoat. The vessels I worked on were Lagoon 620 sailing catamarans. From the 7th July 2021 - 04 June 2022, I became the acting master of one of the catamarans in Indonesia.
