Project Manager at South Africa Revenue Services I was head-hunted by Pravin Gordon deputy commissioner of SARS because of my infrastructure management experience to assist with the new implementation of the South African Revenue Services Network called SARSNET.
The project scope was to migrate 128 buildings with 14000 End-Users from a Terminal Mainframe solution to the first Microsoft Domain client-server environment in South Africa, including a new Wide Area Network.
The timeline for this project was 6 months, we delivered the project in 5 months and one week and was confirmed and approved by the attorney general.
My Team of 300 and I implemented the following:
This system was developed in parallel with the implementation during the SARSNET Project to enable South Africa to migrate from a GST Tax platform to a VAT platform.
The implementation of the NITS system was challenging due to the client application that needed to be deployed to 14,000 with constant weekly updates.
We tested 12 Device Enterprise Management Platforms and decided on the Attachmate Platform called NetWizard.
The scope was to implement the Netwizard and NITS platform on 128 regional staging servers, with 14,000 workstation client agents.
The challenge of this project was that the Netwizard Client Agent could not be Auto-deployed to the workstations and reinstalled during hardware or software maintenance.
I then studied the Microsoft NT4 Workstation Architecture and discovered RPC Protocol, this protocol allowed me to authenticate against the workstation directly and install the NetWizard Agent.
I developed a server application that scans the Sars network IP subnets, identifies if the device is a workstation, and if the agent is installed or not, if not the agent is installed. This ensured the maintainability of the agent implementation for the NetWizard Platform.
Project Scope: Identify and Implement a Device Enterprise platform to enable the deployment of the NITS Platform that must go live on the 15th of January 1999, in 3 months.
Project Time-Line
20th October 1998 to 15th of January 1999
We Delivered the Following Project Milestones:
Project Success
I delivered the project to the SARS Executives on the 4th of January 1999 before the due date of the 15th of January 1999, this allowed them to review all aspects of the delivery and update the parliament and the associated press of the successful implementation of a maintainable NITS Vat Platform.
My mandate was to create an Information technology department to manage the complete IT Infrastructure of the following departments:
We had to manage the following Environments:
I implemented the following:
The above standards resolved all service requests in 20 min.
