My goal is to be the best doctor possible, listen to the patient, and devote enough time to each one. My passion for people means that I journey with my patients through their difficulties. My purpose in coming to Cape Town is to be closer to my family here. I'd like to continue working for as long as possible.

Health-Worx Medical Centre
2017.06 - Current
Work in General Practice.
I joined the Health-Worx Medical Centre team in June 2017. There are 6 GPs in this busy practice, with a spectrum of patients. My emphasis is to be a good generalist, treating the whole family. I built up a thriving general and geriatric practice.
I managed patients with chronic respiratory, cardiac, endocrine and dermatology conditions. I managed HIV, and other infectious conditions. I encouraged patients to have regular health and wellness assessments. I did executive medicals, immigration medicals and comprehensive personal health medicals. I prefer a preventative approach, and regularly screened my patients for non-communicable diseases.
I built up good relationships with the nearby specialists, and have no hesitation in referring patients when necessary.
I conducted the CGA (Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment) to diagnose dementia, frailty, delirium, mental/social health or behavioural problems and other geriatric syndromes. I regularly reviewed chronic medications, fall risk, weight loss. I assisted with the management of end of life issues, and did home visits for the frail elderly. This included looking after patients in retirement homes regularly. With the worldwide ageing population, these are vital skills. My experience in geriatrics is meaningful to me.
I performed minor procedures in the rooms, removal of moles, cryotherapy, suturing lacerations, draining of abscesses, treating ulcers, applying a cast for a fracture.
Womens' health issues are important to me, and I performed PAP smears, and HPV vaccinations.
As a sports enthusiast myself, I find it easy to relate to the needs of my athletic patients. I treated sports injuries, but prefer to advise conservative, cautious training to prevent problems. Most patients benefit from exercise, so there is scope in this area.
I keep up to date, making sure that my CPD points are current. I'm doing year two of the WHO Gerontology and Geriatrics course, (IAGG eTRIGGER AFMEE 2024-2025).
