- After completion of the basic training, I studied at Centurion Technical College in Tshwane (Pretoria), to further my studies in Aviation Electronics
- I graduated as an Avionics Radio Radar technician, with a N6 National Diploma, with distinction
- In 1989 I was awarded best student Electronics in SANDF
- My first squadron apprentice experience was on Canberra aircraft at AFB Waterkloof as a Radio Radar technician
- I also worked on Impala MKII, Mirage F1, Cheetah C, D
- I chose to go to Prima Ops Squadron, 1 SQD Hoedspruit where I worked on Mirage F1 CZ and AZ fighter/bomber aircraft
- I worked as an Aviation Radio/RADAR technician
- After realizing shortcomings on Mirage communication systems, I suggested some amendments on the system of Mirage, which was approved and implemented on the fleet
- SANDF decided to move me to the Systems repair division in Hoedspruit
- Started to work on IFF, Doppler, Nav
- Computer Aiida II radar but settled in the Map Display (earlier GPS) department where there were no trained technicians to repair map displays
- I trained myself, and picked up the department from 70% BER units to 95% serviceable units in just 6 months
- I was soon afterwards asked to join Lt
- Hechter at a special operational readiness platform (ORP) based in Waterkloof, where we worked on a project to install the Russian MIG Engine in a Mirage-F1 AZ
- We mostly worked at the testing facility in the Cape Town area
- After about three years working there I decided to do a technical officer course
- I was commissioned as an officer, 2nd Lieutenant and was quite proud of my achievements
- SANDF sent me to 60 SQN AFB Waterkloof, Boeing Aircrafts
- After the SANDF decided to ground Boeing aircrafts I decided to start a career as a civilian
