1. Geiger Counter

University of Western Cape, Lab and research assistant

  • The project entailed thorough research on radioactive sources, building and testing different Geiger counter low-cost models, and providing a daily report to the project manager, Ian
  • Organized research materials, maintaining a well-ordered workspace conducive to productivity.
  • Participated actively in regular meetings with fellow researchers to discuss project updates, challenges faced, and lessons learned during ongoing activities.

2. Absorption Spectroscopy

University of Western Cape, Lab and research assistant

  • The project's focus was to design an undergraduate absorption spectroscopy experiment using a smartphone.

3. Acoustic Spectroscopy

University of Western Cape, Lab and research assistant

  • The focus of this experiment was to find 3 ways to determine the speed of sound using 1 or 2 smartphones
  • The project involved thinking outside the box and watching YouTube videos to get an idea of how other people experimented with this specific project
  • The findings were relatively close to the accepted speed of sound in air
  • Participated actively in regular meetings with fellow researchers to discuss project updates, challenges faced, and lessons learned during ongoing activities. The focus of this experiment was to find 3 ways to determine the speed of sound using 1 or 2 smartphones.

Presentations

2023, Informative presentation

My technical and process experience of vacation work at the University of the Western Cape, Physics & Astronomy Department.

  • I had an informative presentation with the first year ECP 151Physical Science students at university of the Western Cape. This presentation was aimed at informing the students about possible vacation work opportunities in the Physics department and how they can apply my experience in their current studies. This is because the work i researched during my 2023 June vacation work was relatable to their syllabus.

2023, Persuasive Presentation

Advice on subject-choosing for grade 9s going to 10/ 08/12/23

  • On the 12th of August 10 am, I had persuasive presentation and the purpose of it was to enthuse the students with love of science (and math's) so that they select the full math's stream.
