My Role as a Senior Control Room Operator is

• Is to Interpret alarms.
• To analyze computer logs and alarm printouts.
• Be alert and take quick actions to overcome sudden changes in operating status. To Understand the logic of the operation and understand and follow control logic.
• To identify deviation form standards.
• To investigate same and recommend and/or implement corrective actions.
• To record all operational events and data in unit log book / computerized log.
• To perform routine testing and operating of plant.
• To assist the Shift Supervisor in the performance of periodic protection tests. Perform equipment change over according to pre-set schedules.
• To follow standard procedures.
• To monitor plant status.
• To identify changes in plant parameters and correct abnormalities.
• To report sustained abnormalities.
• To determine availability of standby plant.
• To control generator output to match the phase, frequency and voltage of electricity supplied to panels.
Coordinate with Shift Supervisor for isolating and lining up the equipment’s and system before and after maintenance. Raise work requests or defect notes for faulty equipment

•Start and stop generators, auxiliary pumping equipment, turbines, or other power plant equipment as necessary as per procedure.
• Monitor power plant equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems and report defects as per approved checklist.
• Open and close valves and switch in sequence to start and shut down auxiliary units, upon signal from control room operator, as per operating procedure.
• Prepare and shut down the equipment properly for maintenance and return them in service after maintenance as per SOPs.
• Inspect records or log book entries or communicate with plant personnel to assess equipment operating status.
• Record and compile operational data by completing and maintaining forms, logs or reports.
• Control the operations of equipment (i.e.) Turbine, condenser, HP & LP heaters, Feed water pumps, HTF pumps, filters) and systems ( I.e. Thermal storage systems, • Steam Generation systems, Balance of plant) and report any abnormalities to the control room operators and / or Supervisors.
• Ensure safety of all personnel present on the plant.

• My Duties at Continuous Caster Maintenance
• Performed standby duties and straight shifts, ensuring continuous plant availability and operational efficiency.
• Executed plant maintenance during normal operations and scheduled shutdowns, minimizing downtime and improving reliability.
• Specialized in fitting and precision alignment of rolls on segments, as well as installation and alignment of segments within the casting machine.
• Conducted repair and refurbishment of spares damaged during breakouts, including:

• Replacing and aligning broken rolls.
• Inspecting and restoring hydraulic systems, water cooling circuits, and grease lubrication systems.


• Utilised Laser Alignment measuring tools to achieve accurate alignment of the casting machine, ensuring optimal performance and product quality.
• Collaborated with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement corrective actions, contributing to improved safety and efficiency.
