Work History

Operational Director

G4S Africa
Pretoria
06.2011 - 06.2014
  • Energy, Mining & Construction
  • In January 2014 I was requested to take on the additional responsibility for also managing the Operational service delivery of G4S into the existing Energy and Construction clients on top of the Mining clients in 34 countries in the Africa Region
  • In this role I also contribute towards the development of new business opportunities within these sectors
  • In my previous role with them that I took on in June 2011 I looked just after the Mining sector for G4S Africa in 34 Countries
  • This service required me to be in one of the African Countries visiting clients and projects 3 out of 4 weeks per month and it entailed a lot of flying and traveling in Africa
  • My efforts in making this sector grow in Africa with the Mining Team contributed towards the second year in a row growth of 50% in the Global Mining Sector (Then sitting at 51.37% for 2013) thus doubling the size of the G4S Global Mining Sector within 23 months resulting in 130 contracts in 34 countries
  • The Total Value of „New Organic‟ G4S Mining Sector Business: £ 135,387,034 and the Annual Value of „New Organic‟ G4S Mining Sector Business: £ 57,538,392
  • Further I had a 78% success rate in landing contracts through the Africa Mining Team with 14 of the 18 Client Companies I had targeted in my pre-employment objective presentation in 2011 to the Executive
  • I also contributed to towards the establishment of the focused G4S Mining Sector unit in South Africa thus coming in line with the competitors in this field
  • My efforts further assisted with the establishment of global agreements with the VALE, Rio Tinto and Anglo Ashanti Mine houses
  • My idea tabled to the executive of having Unrest handling vehicles and teams to sell to the Mining clients in South Africa resulted in G4S’s SA wing for the second year in a row successfully delivering this service to Mines and in fact they cannot keep up with the supply that was demanded
  • A further contract spin out from this offering is the 1300 man contract supplied to Anglo Platinum in South Africa at a monthly charge of $912 000
  • G4S’s SA Secure Solutions were providing Unrest Teams and Vehicles into 4 Major Mines Houses during the wage negotiations in 2014
  • I was also the Client Partnership Director and the Project Leader in the Partnership established with Anglo Gold Ashanti globally
  • I fulfilled this role from day one of the discussions with AGA in June 2012
  • This partnership resulted in an excellent team effort and getting the service delivery into AGA by G4S to an acceptable standard at its Tanzania and Ghana Operations with several other Service deliveries into the Group being provided by us such as executive extractions etc.
  • Under the Project Teams guidance G4S Tanzania commenced with the roll out of the then newly established Rapid Response Units Solution offering to this mine to respond and mitigate the impact of Illegal miners on the Mine
  • This partnership further lead to the take-over of the Low Risk security roles on the Idaupriem Mine in Ghana with a 200 plus man solution in 2013 as well as the roll out in November 2013 of the Oubasi Mine, 500 plus man takeover as well as the involvement in the Technological Solution design into this mine
  • The partnership also contributed into the substantial man solution that was rolled out for them in South Africa
  • This AGA/G4S Partnership Document drawn up by the team has indeed become the foundation for the shape off the Mining Solution into all other clients looking at things like the right mixture of service providers and Technological Asset Protection solutions and within the Security Staff things like name and rank changes in the Mining Sector as well as establishing the Career Path and Training Program and resulting in the functional Mining Uniform design exercise and implementation of the same on mines
  • It further focuses on reestablishing the needed Standards and upping the levels of service delivery as a whole
  • By working with Companies like Control Risk out of London that I first started working with in Barrick Mining in 2005 I could do Country Political Situational Risk Assessments and Reviews and as such advice clients on potential life threatening situations they might be facing
  • By working with other professional service providers we did successful extractions of Senior Executive Staff out of Mali and several other African Countries
  • I also facilitated and contributed to the creation from the ground up of 6 Mining Specific Training Courses complete with student manuals, trainer notes and certificates
  • This process was followed by running a Train-the-Trainer course where 21 Trainers from 12 countries in Africa were trained up in the Mining Basic and Supervisory Course content and they then went back to their respective Countries to roll the training out to their staff deployed at existing Mining Client sites
  • Reason for leaving: My personal objective in taking this position with G4S was to sort out their Mining Division over a three year period and I did that
  • They did not keep their promise to increase my salary as I was promised in my initial interview by the President and the HR Director who had since left the Company and I decided to walk away from them
  • I reverted back to working for myself in giving advice to Mining Companies whilst considering employment offers with in the Mining Industry as they came along.
