Key Achievements:

  • Insurance Cost Savings - Implemented risk recommendation received from Insurance Company FM Global. Saved the company USD2,5m by reducing the risk profile and reducing the Buy Back cost. Also reduced premium by mitigating the risk from USD25m to USD5m. The risk recommendations were 80 pages long and the approach I used was to get the Plant Managers in a weekly meeting to understand the list and create a plan on how to mitigate the risks identified. We initially approached the 10 most high risk items and also the simple recommendations. We received accolades from the Insurer saying that had not seen in 10 years what we did in 3 months. I managed the process, prepared risk summaries and allocated responsibility. I conducted plant inspections and provided feedback to the Insurer as well as to the business. I have attached an accolade received from the CEO Mike Garcia.
  • Evraz New Leaders – Executive development program - Participated in Evraz New Leaders program hosted in Moscow Russia

Program Summary

Six high potential employees were selected from Evraz Highveld Steel and Vanadium to participate in this Executive Development program. The selection process entailed the submission of two written essays, a series of interviews and presentations.

The program consisted of lectures by Skolkovo staff and faculty as well as business leaders (Boeing, Du Pont, BP etc) and experts in the steel, commodities and business field.

Participants were required to work on a project within a group consisting of 7 to 8 international employees. The project topics were based on achieving EVRAZ strategies. I was part of the Global Engineering Expertise: Retention and Development (GEE) team.

  • Project progress was presented to Global Vice Presidents in A3 format at the end of each module.
  • Successful implementation of project deliverables at EVRAZ sites was expected by Module 6 and non-performing teams have been eliminated during the program.
  • I am very proud to mention that our Project Global Engineering Expertise: Retention and Development (GEE) was the only project selected for full implementation globally throughout Evraz.
  • Finance Champion for Evraz Lean Way – Continuous Improvement Participated in several process engineering projects throughout the business which yielded cost and time savings.
