Job Description:
The role of the Electrical Engineer will be to design, analyse, verify, commission and ensure compliance of projects according to national standards, best practices and regulations. The Electrical Engineer will report to the Head of Engineering for all phases of the project from the design phase to final commissioning and handover. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate great attention to detail with excellent engineering skills and multi-tasking abilities. The goal is to ensure that all potential and active solar projects are evaluated, designed, budgeted and commissioned to ensure standards are met. Furthermore, the position would require continuous product research and testing to ensure the execution of projects using relevant and up-to-date technology, improving systems based on lessons learned. Project size would range from 20kWp to 10MWp. You may be required to work occasional overtime to meet critical project deadlines. The candidate should be willing to travel within South Africa, as well as other African countries, with travelling expected up to 40%, depending on project stages.

Role and responsivities:
1. Project development
· Conduct engineering site audits to collect structural, electrical, and related site information for use in the design of residential, commercial, and industrial solar power systems.
· Conducting site visits and specification of data monitoring equipment as required.
· Conducting technical due diligence examinations on prospective project acquisitions and external technical reports.
· Supporting the development team with various tasks relating to supply authority approvals, project coordination, sizing, site selection.
· Review specifications and recommend engineering or manufacturing changes to achieve solar design objectives.
2. Energy yield assessment
· The technical assessment and interpretation of solar resources including prospecting for potential solar sites and calculating energy yield analyses and reports.
· Manage the configurations, procurement, and maintenance of data collection equipment/services
· Recommend technical design or process changes to improve efficiency, quality, or performance.
3. Design
· Design electrical network reticulation design in accordance with project requirements.
· Create electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, or connection diagrams for solar electric systems, using computer-aided design (AutoCAD 2020, Sketchup, Layout, Skelion, Shadow Analysis) software.
· Solar PV system design according to NRS 097, NRS 048, SANS 10142-1 and National Grid Code.
· Develop design specifications and functional requirements for residential, commercial, and industrial solar PV systems.
· Develop standard operation procedures and quality or safety standards for solar installation work.
· Create checklists for review or inspection of completed solar installation projects.
· Feasibility and risk analyses of energy asset.
4. Contract management / Procurement
· External study management including, but not limited to, electrical studies, topographical surveys, etc.
· Management of contractors for the installation of measurement equipment
· Defining scopes, analysing quotes, and following up with deliverables from technical advisors
· Managing relationships with suppliers and contractors
· Client representative engagement during predesign, final design, construction, and final commission phase of Solar PV project.
· Provide technical direction to installation teams during installation, start-up, testing, system commissioning, or performance monitoring.
· Preparing Final handover documents for Solar PV systems installed and fully commissioned.
· Inspect finished products to locate flaws.
5. Client/Supply authority’s engagement
· Compiling SSEG application from initial submission to receive provisional approval and final commissioning approval with different supply authorities (Eskom and Municipalities) for example City of Cape Town, Drakenstein, Stellenbosch, Witzenberg, Langeberg, Breede Valley etc. Analyse costs and benefits of proposed designs or projects.
· Generate bills of materials (BOQ).
· Managing interfaces with the development, financial etc.

· General support for other departments
· Analysis and interrogation of information and pricing provided by contractors
· Ensuring full compliance of technical submissions
6. Asset management
· Solar PV Performance analysis
