Chairperson for change control
Coordinates LPS(Loss Prevention System) for the IT Department liaising with HES Team
Responsible for one Data Center and 14 Computer rooms in Astron Energy South Africa and including Botswana
Ensuring Data Centre and Computer rooms comply with Astron Energy IP (Information Protection) and SOX standards for safety and auditing purposes
Ensuring the Data Centre and Computer rooms are alignment with Astron Energy Data Centre standards
Replacement projects of CRAC (Computer room air conditioning) and UPS at the different Computer rooms
Writing up scope of work for Computer room relocation as per Astron Energy Data Centre design standards
Scoping and execution of the Chevron Data Center revamp i.e
Construction, Electrical (from Tier 1 to Tier 2), MIP, DB, UPS, batteries, air-cons, generator, fire suppression, static transfer switches and BMS installation in a live environment from October 2010 till April 2012
Performing Scope of Work and conducting RFP’s (Request for Purchase) for Data Center revamp project and for Computer rooms
This includes CRAC, UPS and Fire suppression
Ensuring electrical, air-con and UPS consultants abides to Chevron Data Centre standard
Liaising with Logistics Engineers and Design Engineering team with finalising of electrical and mechanical setup within the computer rooms at the various sites
Ensuring all OHSA (Occupational Health & Safety Act) codes are adhered to within the secure areas
Obtaining COC (Certification of Compliance) for electrical work done in Data Center and Computer rooms Calculating kVA, kW and BTU required for Data Center and Computer room and ensuring that the recommendations take power efficiency and cost savings into account
Ensure the Data Center and Computer room designs are designed to Business unit requirements and where applicable recommending on the different tier levels for electrical and mechanical
Reporting to IT Manager and Chevron Global Data Center Operational Excellence team in the USA on project progress
Ensuring a maintenance plan is in place for all peripherals at the Data Centre and Computer rooms
Quarterly physical access review of all Computer rooms and the Data Centre
Backup for scheduling of daily and monthly batch runs
Manage operations team for high performance and customer centricity
Ensuring the team meets and exceeds Service Level Agreements Setting up shifts for Operators working 24 x 7 x 365 Delegating and setting up objectives for team members Administrative duties for team members pertaining to leave and time management
Submitting monthly reports to EDS, HP and Chevron management Implementing change control regarding changes within the environment and acquiring business and technical approval from relevant teams, includes downtimes in Data Center for maintenance to be performed
Understanding and managing Chevron service requests Maintaining good customer and vendor relations Guides the team with technical advice and consulting
Make recommendations where opportunities for improvement exist
Monitor vendors to ensure performance meets or exceeds Chevron standards
Identify and manage vendor performance issues in a timely manner before it impacts service levels
Participate in bi-annual business strategy planning sessions
Manage planned vs actual capital expenditure budget monthly and forecasts
Manage planned vs actual operational expenditure budget monthly and forecasts
Planning for changes and enhancements to the environment using project management skills and applying Chevron CPDEP (Chevron Project Development and Execution Process) Perform root cause analysis on any major operational incidents
Reliability and Incident Management
Certified Permit to Work acceptor and issuer on-site at Refinery - 80% pass rate required
Writing procedures and implementing for Data Center operations and best practices, Change control and incident management process.

Installing, supporting, and maintaining scheduling and monitoring products, Control-M and ECS (Enterprise Control Station) on Unix systems
Setting up of daily and monthly batch runs
Meeting the various Business Units to ensure their requirements are met for the monthly batch runs for their area
Printing cheques
Ensuring backups are taken offsite for DR purposes and storing the evidence for auditing (SOX) purposes
Ensure Operators are informed of the nightly run and any new additions for the evening
Ensuring maintenance on all peripherals for the Data Center and Computer rooms are scheduled timeously
Standing in and assisting Manager when required.

Supervise operators and liaise with systems and application programmers to meet service levels
Supervise the printing and distribution of all reports, statements, labels, cheques, and special printing
IPL, change parameters and perform power on reset of Vtam machines after changes and additions

Schedule batch jobs when requested by programmers or users after hours
Responsible for operators on shift and the shift schedule and standby.
Responsible for daily batch run and efficient use of system resources on MVS, SAP R/3, Tandem and AIX
Working in tandem with shift leader
Monitoring dual site workload using ELAN and SNA nodes lines and cross domains
Backup application and file servers and Informix database on AIX
Performing file transfer checks, confirmation, extracts, store and backups on Tandem between remote site and mainframe
Import transports to SAP
Print and distribute all printing
Store archives, system backups and application backups off-site.
