I was born and raised in Clarkson, a Moravian Mission Station in the Tsitsikamma Region of the Eastern Cape (South Africa). I lived and worked in various localities including London (UK) and Doha (Qatar). I am married to Mary-Ann and have two children, Elon Liu, and Lia Saige. I am a mid-career professional and executive which worked across various sectors fulfilling various roles that involved urban and economic development initiatives, engagements with investors and infrastructure developers, leading multi-disciplinary project implementation teams and overseeing the work of transactional advisors, fund originators, partners, and stakeholders. Most tasks focused on infrastructure development, tourism, community, and socio-economic development. I collaborated with Architects, Civil Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Town and Regional Planners, Environmental and Conservation Professionals, Community workers, Skills Trainers and Facilitators, and Programme Administrators and most importantly communities on the ground. I worked on projects funded by various Development Finance Institutions, such as WWF, the European Union, GIZ and KFW Bank, Government and Private Funders and government Sector Departments. I am a member of the South African Planning Institute (SAPI) and the Economic Development Council of South Africa. I see myself as a ‘pracademic’ and belief in applying and practicing theory obtained through continued education. I enjoy seeing others also better themselves through continued education and does not only encourage same but assist, mentor and coach where required. As part of continuous professional development, I presented and attended various courses and conferences to assist in adding to my skills and through this shape organizational outputs. My research interest focusses on decision-making processes around development, environmental, economic, urban and community issues. I have a positive approach to my work and life and maintain high standards and expectations and see myself as an asset to any organization. I am an extrovert and believe that my leadership expertise, technical experience, knowledge, and range of qualifications make me a competitive candidate for positions across various executive and senior management levels in infrastructure development, urban development, economic development, environment, and other disciplines.
