Work History

Civil Engineer

Exxaro
Lephalale
01.2021 - Current
  • GGC Plant-wide lifting equipment (Crawl Beams): Currently, leading the scope development and structural assessment of lifting equipment at the Grootegeluk Complex to ensure compliance with South African standards
  • Plant Areas Lining Project: Currently the project manager for a DWS initiated project aimed at preventing stockpiling and spillages of carbonaceous materials on unlined areas. Maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements for water quality protection.
  • Small Engineering Works: Supervised construction progress on-site, addressing any discrepancies or issues promptly while maintaining safety protocols. Monitored execution of contract work for compliance with design plans and specifications. Collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless coordination and timely delivery of projects.
  • Key roles:

Junior Civil Engineer

Zutari
Pretoria
01.2023 - 01.2024
  • Seconded to Zutari for exposure to design aspects of civil engineering, joined the water resources department where one was exposed to the software knowledge required to execute hydrology designs and stormwater modelling for heavy industry and mining
  • Anglo-American Climate Change, Water Balance Impact Assessment: Assessed the impact of climate change on the volumes of water that will need to be managed in the water management systems of Anglo Sishen Mine. This was done to assess and predict the period of when climate change would have an effect on existing or proposed storage facilities changing from a compliant risk of spill (in terms of the relevant Anglo-American standards and/or South African legislation) to non-compliant.
  • Water Accounting Framework (WAF) Anglo-American: Monthly reporting for Kolomela Responsible for WAF reporting for Kolomela on monthly basis. Results formed part of the re-use calculation for the mine and provided the responsible engineer with data on which areas of the operation require improved monitoring and measuring systems. Furthermore, assisted in providing recommendations on re-use possibilities within the process flow of the mine
  • ACSA, OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa: Cargo facility expansion project that required detailed stormwater designs to enable the Water Use License Application (WULA) and Waste Management License (WML) application. Responsibly for stormwater and attenuation pond designs with consideration of oil/water separation facility requirements.
  • Zibulo Colliery North Shaft Detail Design: Stormwater drainage design for Provincial roads D683 and D686. Stormwater design for road layouts included hydraulic evaluation of inlet and outlet of culvert structures taking into consideration the functionality of existing culverts structures. Facilitated the development of Bill of Quantities and wayleave applications for proposed road designs to ensure adherence to Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport.
  • Key roles: Conduct detailed stormwater runoff calculations using SANRAL Drainage Manual methodologies (e.g., Rational Method) to design drainage systems for road and infrastructure projects
  • Perform hydraulic analysis and sizing of stormwater structures (culverts, channels, detention ponds) to manage peak flows and prevent flooding.
  • Utilise GoldSim software for dynamic system modelling, simulating stormwater behaviours under various rainfall and runoff scenarios.

Professional-in-Training, Civil

Exxaro
Matla, Kriel
01.2021 - 12.2022
  • Initially, provided support to the projects office team whilst gaining important industry knowledge, company standards and procedures
  • Later, managed compliance and risk related projects from initiation to completion
  • Employee Parking expansion: Exxaro Matla Coal, Mpumalanga: Site supervision and quality management with the objective of the project being to extend an existing parking area to allow for an additional 28 interlocking pavement parking bays for Exxaro Mine 3 employees
  • Sublime Road upgrade: Exxaro Matla Coal, Mpumalanga: Part of the supervision and quality management team assisting in the construction of an asphalt and concrete access road for trucks to deliver external coal supply to Matla Eskom Power Station, through Exxaro Matla stockpile
  • GN704 (Government Notice 704): Exxaro Matla Coal, Mpumalanga: Executed the front-end loading project management stages of the GN704 project by accessing the functionality of clean/dirty water separation systems and conducting assessment of stormwater infrastructure to ensure compliance with local regulations and environmental standards.
  • Incline Security and Perimeter fence upgrades: Executed risk management projects at the mine by ensuring improved security measures at the Matla inclines and external perimeter through more secure fencing infrastructure and installation of monitoring cameras and sensors
