  • Responsible for managing junior trialists and trial assistants.

PhD Fellow & Research Assistant

University of Free State
01.2014 - 01.2017
  • Elucidating the taxonomy of species in the plant bulb flowering genus Bulbinella and provide the first DNA sequence-based phylogeny for the genus based one multi-gene phylogenies and a phylogenomic approach
  • With this contribution, the researcher attempts to ascertain if New Zealand species truly group within the genus, and to characterize the species status of each species
  • The novel results of this investigation serve as an indication of the value this type of intervention holds for the attempt to find a solution to the dilemma of identifying and typing the species in Bulbinella and indicated important focus points for follow-up studies to provide a solid classification of the genus and related genera
  • Planned, directed, and conducted independent research experiments; Establishes new research protocols and procedures in the laboratory; Performs basic molecular genetic laboratory techniques such as PCR, qPCR and molecular cloning and performed tissue culture
  • Experience with genetics and genomics data analyses including experience of R, Python, SVS and/or any other programming language
  • Independently and critically reviews scientific literature; Organized, analyzes, and interprets research data; Summarizes research findings and publishes results in research journals and presents work at national or international meetings
