A process re-engineering exercise lead by the role had to be undertaken in order to ensure that Supply Chain can track the movement of centrally procured personal protective equipment from warehouses to healthcare institutions (Hospitals and Clinics). Furthermore, instantaneous availability of data relating to Covid-19 positive cases, mass screening and contact tracing had to be made available to the Gauteng ministry of health.

  • The position required solid leadership skills as it required one to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The position also required a person with great followership and managing of large high performing teams. The position focused mainly in the Education Sector and required stakeholder management between the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) and stakeholders (training providers and grant applicants). The position required the management of the grant disbursement processes as well as making recommendations the board of the SETA in order for grants to be disbursed equitably across the country.
  • Duties and responsibilities:
  • Project planning, execution and closure with strong emphasis on measuring progress against objectives
  • Ran an extension of the Services SETA Quality Management Division (QMD). The project required streamlining business processes as follows:
  • Monitoring of skills development providers in order to ensure that training is in line with SETA requirements
  • The Quality Management System (QMS) approved at the time of accreditation (which I also managed) was monitored while training was under way. The QMS would be required to address inter alia, the following (data collected at each monitoring visit):
  • Evidence of learners’ attending training
  • Evidence of learners’ portfolios which indicate the learners’ work and assessment by training providers
  • Correct sampling during assessment of learners’ portfolios
  • Correct quality assurance measurements which indicate that an assessor and a moderator have checked the learners’ work
  • Application of training material is as per the approved standards i.e. formative and summative assessments are conducted correctly
  • The application of the approved QMS also assessed at the end of training in order to ensure that SETA projects address the skills development gap (main objective). This ensures that the funds allocated to training are not misused.
  • Any inconsistencies would be corrected while training was underway, this ensured that training providers are given the opportunity to embrace any change that may arise.
  • Throughout this process, progress reports were prepared and presented to the QMD senior managers and any changes required implemented.
