  • I was approached by FFE Africa to start a dealership to service KZN and the Eastern Cape to sell their innovative equipment to the forestry and agricultural sector.
  • We supplied everything from small water pumps to large municipal and forestry fighting trucks.
  • I was trained on all equipment and in turn trained the client for their specific equipment,
  • Delivered services to customer locations within specific timeframes.
  • In 2017 they shut their operation after restructuring the company and the dealerships fell away.

  • I expanded the business to include a contract with Universal Tobacco (USA) in Malawi.
  • We harvested, extracted and transported 140 000 cubic metres of timber per annum for the tobacco industry,
  • All employees were trained on the use of mechanised machinery and safety standards.
  • We consulted to the government on setting up of small growers schemes to re-establish felled timber areas to prevent the destruction of indigenous timber and we ran educational programmes with the assistance of locals for the community to create awareness on the conservation of natural resources.

  • Mondi implemented a new policy to outsource their timber operations and gave me the opportunity to be an independent contractor.
  • I started my business and was contracted to Sappi and Mondi to do silviculture and chemical weed application, expanding to harvesting, timber extraction (manually and mechanically) as well as transporting .
  • we produced 120 000 tons per annum with a workforce of 1500 employees for 30 000 hectares of plantations .
  • With the assistance of management staff and a financial director I was responsible for planning, budgeting and the implementation thereof for of all timber, to FSC Standards.
  • We also planted, maintained, and cut sugar cane for Mondi.

  • Started my forestry career with NTE, who were taken over by Mondi Forests.
  • I was trained in all aspects of forestry, which included -
  • Silviculture, Harvesting and transporting of Pine, Gum and Wattle timber.
  • I was promoted to Senior Estate manager in 1988 and took over all the harvesting and tranport operations for the district I was based in.
  • Planned efficient harvest operations that maximized yield while minimizing environmental impacts such as soil compaction or sedimentation in waterways.
  • Assessed tree health regularly, identifying disease outbreaks early to minimize losses from pests and pathogens.
  • Supported stand improvement, thinning and economic projects by marking timber.
  • Managed invasive plant species through targeted removal efforts, promoting the growth of native flora and fauna.
  • Reduced wildfire risk through strategic thinning operations and controlled burning techniques.
