With a diverse background that bridges corporate finance and psychology, I am in my third year of studying psychology and counseling, seeking an opportunity to apply my skills in a professional setting. My passion for psychology is deeply rooted in my early experiences working with disabled individuals, a journey that began with my late mother, a child psychologist who founded and ran the Lighthouse Stimulation Center in the south of Johannesburg. From a young age, I was immersed in an environment dedicated to supporting children with disabilities, including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism (both non-verbal and verbal), and severe cerebral palsy. Through my mother’s work at Lizito Disabled School, I also had the privilege of working with the blind and deaf, further deepening my understanding of diverse needs, communication barriers, and the importance of tailored support. These experiences shaped my ability to connect with individuals on a profound level, fostering patience, empathy, and an intuitive understanding of human behavior.
While my professional journey led me into corporate finance, where I developed analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills in high-pressure environments, my passion has always remained in psychology. Years of working with numbers and strategies reinforced my ability to assess, problem-solve, and engage with people in meaningful ways, but my desire to contribute directly to individual well-being ultimately led me back to the field of psychology and counseling. My unique blend of corporate experience and hands-on work with disabled individuals allows me to approach counseling with both strategic insight and emotional intelligence, making me highly adaptable in various settings.
What sets me apart as a candidate is not only my academic background and professional experience but also my lived understanding of resilience, human connection, and the complexities of individual struggles. I am accustomed to working with people from diverse backgrounds, including those who communicate in non-traditional ways, and I understand the patience, creativity, and commitment it takes to build trust and facilitate growth. As I transition into the psychology field, I am eager to bring this unique combination of skills and experience into a role where I can contribute meaningfully while continuing to develop as a future psychologist and counselor. I am seeking an opportunity where I can apply my knowledge, gain practical experience, and make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
