I am part of the humanities department. In the department we devote a large part of the training to study and career preparation for the learners. In the department we teach the learners about study and career preparation. We also provide information in the subject to help the boys with subject choices that are suitable for their particular careers. For the study preparation we focus on the following aspects: Study methods / summaries, Time management, The ideal conditions for study, Examination guidelines (answer of papers and type of question). For career preparation we focus on the following aspects: Fields of study, Admission requirements, CV, Interviews, What to expect when you go on to study further, What different professions involve, What subjects and admission requirements are required. For subject choices we focus on the following aspects: Which subjects are required for the relevant profession, What are the admission requirements for the profession?, Focus on which subjects count as admission requirements. Part of my role as a teacher at the school is to recruit future learners for the school. I am involved in the following events: Annual Open Day for Grade 7 learners, Millies rugby day: chat with boys and share information, Water polo: grade 7 pre-season practice, sports exposure, Rugby day launches for prospective Grade 8s. practical tests and talk, Marketing visit to schools: information session for grade 7s, Attending sports days / provincial weeks: talking to boys and handing out information, inquiries from parents.
