  • As far as is reasonably practicable you participate in and provide safety input into the design and execution plans of temporary structures of this project throughout until final handover;
  • You maintain the health and safety requirements for the project in compliance with the formal written project Health & Safety Plan, the WBHO Company Operating Procedures, the WBHO Health, Safety & Environmental Management System, the OHS Act, as well as the Construction Regulations and other relevant Regulations;
  • You assist me with regulatory issues such as; The monitoring of sub-contractors to prepare conforming Health, Safety & Environmental Plans; Verifying that such Health, Safety & Environmental Plans are authorized by the CR 8(1) Construction Manager; Verifying that sub-contractors are registered with WCA and maintain their monthly contributions;
  • You verify that each sub-contractor has opened a site Health, Safety & Environmental file and that its records are kept there-in;
  • That site audits are conducted on the sub-contractors;
  • Each sub-contractor’s health and safety file is included in the final document handed to the client on completion;
  • You draw up and maintain a list of sub-contractors, their occupation and their Clause 37(2) Mandatory Agreement and Contract of appointment;
  • That each sub-contractor’s employees have valid certificates of fitness
  • You verify that each sub-contractor has, as mandatory, signed the OHS Act Clause 37(2) Mandatory Agreement;
  • You conduct weekly and ad-hoc safety inspections of the works and submit a written report on your findings to me before the end of day;
  • You assist me in fulfilling the responsibilities as defined in Construction Regulation 9 with regard to risk assessments for the construction work being part of the risk assessment teams, for identification, analysis and evaluation of hazards and risk to which persons may be exposed to, all in accordance with the project’s Health, Safety & Environmental Plan, the WBHO Health, Safety & Environmental Management System and the WBHO Company Operating Procedures;
  • You put a consolidated Health, Safety & Environmental File in place and file, maintain and control all records related to risk assessments, monitoring and review plans, minutes of meetings, legal appointments, sub-contractor Health, Safety & Environmental Plans and all other Health, Safety & Environmental related issues in the consolidated Health & Safety File;
  • Risk assessments are reviewed as per the established risk review plan;
  • You capture the project safety statistics before the last day for the preceding month and present it to me for submission to the Divisional Health, Safety & Environmental Manager.
  • You serve as s safety expert, without voting rights, on the Health, Safety & Environmental Committee/s at the prescribed times and venues.
  • You assist me in the close out of raised Non Conformances and providing evidence timeously to the originator of the NCR.
  • You assist me with the safety compliance and discipline of all own employees and sub-contractor employees which will typical include, but not be limited to the following: Verifying all own and sub-contractor’s legal appointments in terms of the OHS Act, Construction Regulations and other relevant Regulations with reference to the WBHO Guidelines for Legal Appointments and Titles; Controlling own and sub-contractors conformance to the relevant approved Health, Safety & Environmental Plans; Controlling own and sub-contractors conformance to the risk assessments; Controlling own and sub-contractors adherence to prescribed Company Operating Procedures; Controlling own and sub-contractors use of the prescribed PPE.
