Acting Production Manager January 20th – March 7th 2021
My current role as Production Coordinator is to handle all editorial & repro work at the beginning of each issue up to a certain point. The Production Manager role includes handling everything that finalizes the preparation for the magazines to go to print at the end. These responsibilities include:
Confirmation of the book sizes, section breakdowns of each magazine. Completing the Print Orders for each magazine.
Quality Control on all 3 magazines-Editorial and Ads. Send Covers for Bar code approval. Create section folders for all approved PDF, start prep for uploading of the magazines. The Production Manager is tasked with making sure each magazine is uploaded to the printer digitally. All pages accounted for and approved. Create sections for E Book and send to Repro. Upload E Books to Digital Platforms. Complete Distribution List. This list is a detailed instruction to the printer and distributor for all 3 titles, based on where the mags need to be before the on sale date. This includes which stores, doctors rooms, office copies, subscriptions copies nationwide. During the last stretch of the current issues, it is important to work strategically and at a decent pace. Follow a detailed order and focus on one task at a time.
With 3 years of knowledge and experience, I was asked to take on this project and opportunity, over and above my current duties. This gave me the chance to be part of the entire process from start to finish. I ran the Production Department for 6 weeks, getting our March/April ’21 issues to print and on shelf.
