DCES Curriculum ECD Preprimary

Department For Education
Butterworth
01.1994 - Current
  • I started teaching in 1994 as Junior Secondary Teacher and in 1997 joined Primary section as Foundation Phase Teacher for Grade 1. Having gained experience as Facilitator for Curriculum 2005, I found it interesting and captivating working with young children. I taught all the Grades in the Foundation Phase and was one of the Lead Teachers for Foundation Phase in the Province. I trained teachers in NCS and CAPS until I got promoted to Department of Education as DCES Foundation Phase in 2012. As head of section, i fully participated in the training of teachers in the phase with subject advisers focusing to Grade RR and Grade R, Preprimary unity as is currently known. I have qualified as an Assessor and am currently waiting for Facilitator and Moderator results. I am currently training ECD Practitioners on NCF from the previous years to date through workshops that we organise as Department of education. I am fit to train and facilitate modules to empower Practitioners in the Early Childhood Development (ECD).
  • Used imagination, innovation and creativity during activities, facilitating learning and development.
  • Attended teacher and childcare training to keep up to date on curriculums and best practices.
  • Encouraged children's language development through storytelling and interactive discussions.
  • Observed child progress to detect signs of developmental, emotional, or health-related issues.
  • Implemented strategies to engage parents in their children's learning and development.
  • Facilitated parent-teacher meetings to discuss children's progress and address any concerns.
  • Evaluated curriculum effectiveness through reviews and assessments.
  • Implemented Autism Awareness training to better support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Utilised assessment tools to track progress and identify gaps in learning.
  • Fostered a safe, nurturing environment conducive to early childhood learning and exploration. These are some of the activities that I am engaged as both advisor and supervisor of the section.
