  • Over the Christmas season, my school took part in a heartfelt clothing and food drive to support underprivileged children in the Pikanini area. Our mission was simple yet powerful: to make their Christmas truly special. With freezing weather threatening their comfort and wellbeing, we focused on providing warm clothes and nourishing meals to bring them joy and relief during this magical time. What made it even more inspiring was the spirit of my classmates—many of us volunteered to arrive at school as early as 6 a.m. to lovingly prepare and pack meals. It was a beautiful reminder of the impact compassion and community can have. Once all items were loaded into the bus, we traveled to Pikanini, which was over 30 minutes away from our school and spent the entire day with the kids. We played with them, ate lunch with them, and had fruitful conversations with them. This experience really gave us the opportunity to get to know them better, and their stories.

I am currently a proud member of my school's Marimba band, one of only two Year 1 students selected to join a group otherwise made up of Year 2s. This opportunity has been a huge honour, and it's deepened my passion for music. We've performed at a wide range of events — from school talent shows and concerts to prestigious occasions like art exhibitions and a performance for the President of Seychelles.

In addition to music, I've had the privilege of being part of my school's African Dance team. I believe in the power of self-expression beyond words — through movement, rhythm, and connection. Dance has allowed me to explore that, and it's been a joy to perform with such a dynamic and passionate team. We've showcased our talent at major events like ALAMAU (a week-long pan-African student conference), the UMUZI Festival (a three-day celebration of art and creativity), school assemblies, and concerts. These experiences have shown me the beauty of culture and the freedom that art brings.

Sports have always been a big part of my life. Over the past 17 years, I've consistently participated in four sports: netball and athletics for 11 years, softball for 5 years, and cross country for 2 years. Sports are more than just games for me — they are an outlet. The roar of the crowd, the thrill of the game, and the pressure of the moment all inspire me to push beyond my limits. There is something magical about giving your all and being cheered on for doing what you love — a feeling that words cannot fully describe.

In 2023, my sister and I started our own crochet business. What began as a fun hobby — creating pieces for ourselves — quickly grew into something more. Soon, we were receiving orders from family and friends, and we even designed a logo for our brand. Crochet has become one of my biggest passions. The joy of hearing someone say, “Where did you buy that shirt?” and seeing their amazement when I say, “I made it,” reminds me why I love what I do. It's deeply motivating to know that people appreciate the work I create with my own hands.
