I am a caring educator with approximately 10 years of experience in teaching and implementing my knowledge of education. Being a Head of Department taught me many things with regards to working under pressure and working closely with my colleagues. I have a strong Christian ethos and have steadfast morals and values that I use during each teaching interaction of my day. Expert in closely monitoring student progress while implementing modern educational techniques into daily practices. Committed to long-term student success through well-rounded educations.
I have achieved my BA degree in Psychology, my PGCE and I have done a TEFL certificate. I am SACE registered.
I formulated learning material according to the curriculum and that which was age appropriate, developed lesson plans that I could follow intensely, set up tests, assignments and exams. many lessons were taught using technology such as powerpoints and videos which helped the more visual learner. Detailed marking of books was of the utmost importance and I had regular parent meetings to keep parents informed about their children's progress and what could be done to help their children improve.
Enrichment programmes were implemented for those that needed a bit of extra help.
As an HOD I was responsible for the implementation and management of staff for the intersen phase (grades 4-7). I had to ensure teachers were doing what was expected of them both in and out of the classroom. I had to set up an honors evenings and awards morning for the children who had achieved outstanding results.
I conducted weekly catch up meetings with the educators, sat in on parent meetings and was present during interviews.
As an educator at Curro which is an independent school, I had to teach many subjects to many grades. English was my main focus in grades 4-6. We had to set up worksheets, reading material, exams and other assignments.
I taught very large classes at Benoni West and many children who came from under privileged backgrounds. I had duties to fulfill such as break duty and I assisted with the coaching of tennis.
I taught grade 6 English at Tom Newby whilest completing my teaching qualification. I set up various tests, exams, reading material and so forth. I assisted with the Eisteddfod where the children would be coached to stand up and say their poems to a panel of judges and audience.
This was my first job and was somewhat of a shock as I had to control 51 grade 6 children. I taught English home language and marking over 51 scripts was daunting. I really enjoyed working with some of the children but the children came from very harsh backgrounds and as a first year teacher that was a little too overwhelming.
