- I have been exposed to the Protection discipline within secondary plant operations.
- Performed maintenance, testing and commissioning of CDG relays, CTs, VTs, CVTs, oil & SF6 circuit breakers, line and earth switch isolators.
- Participated in pre-commissioning and commissioning of transmission feeders at Kusile 400 kV, Diphororo 400 kV, Minerva 275 kV and Bakwena (88 kV).
- Conducted status indication and alarm testing with Tele-control and end-to-end trip testing with Tele-protection disciplines.
- Performed relay panel scheme functionality tests including Distance Protection (ARC, Fuse Fail), SOTF, Power Swing Blocking, Fault Locator and Breaker Failure (BFR) functions. Tested and worked on protection relays including REC670, SIPROTEC 7SL87, REL531, REL561 and REL670 for feeder and transformer protection.
- Conducted CT, VT and CVT testing, junction box checks, circuit breaker operating voltage tests and isolator tests including on-load measurements.
- Performed transformer protection testing covering DIFF, O/C, E/F, REF, SEF, Buchholz, Master Relay and BFR protection schemes.
- Interpreted substation drawings including SLDs, panel layouts, AC/DC key diagrams, scheme logic, cabling and cable block diagrams.
- Applied Eskom ferrule numbering standards across AC, DC, tripping, control, interlocking, pilot protection and SCADA circuits.
- Conducted CT, VT and CVT panel measurements using Fluke meters and clamp meters.
- Performed cable ringing and panel fault finding on line, busbar, isolator, VTJB, transformer marshalling kiosks and protection panels.
- Assisted with DC earth fault investigations, under-frequency load shedding investigations, capacitor bank, bus zone, bus coupler and bus section maintenance.
- Supported calibration of P531 disturbance recorders for event and fault analysis.
- Maintained strict compliance with SHEQ, ORHVS, HIRA, LOTO and permit-to-work systems
- Maintained a safe work environment by strictly adhering to established safety protocols and guidelines.
