  • As a gender focal point within the Department,the official is responsible for conducting gender audits, assist programmes to develop gender sensitive indicators, work towards creating an enabling environment for gender mainstreaming, train employees on gender analysis and sensitization and ensure implementation of national gender policies and alignment with international instruments for gender equality.
  • The official also assist in developing and implementing policies, strategies and guidelines to promote women empowerment and gender equality. The officilal work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit within the Department as M&E is a key component of the work of a GFP.
  • The official regularly liaise with the Ministry for Women (Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities), the National Gender Machinery and other relevant bodies on issues of strategies affecting and impacting women empowerment. In addition, the official represent the Department in various fora. Due to my excellent work, I have been awarded a performance bonus for two following years. On the promotion of the Director of the Gender Unit, the official was appointed Acting Director and took on the additional tasks building my skills and capacity for the work conducted by the Unit.

The official initially worked in the Welfare Services Branch at National Department of Social Development

  • Designed training programs for National DSD and rolled out these programmes to nine (9) provincial counterparts to enhance their understanding of new DSD Welfare related policies, Women Strategy, Socio-Economic Empowerment sessions for Widows and KAIZEN Japanese philosophy/ Model.
  • Ensure the provision of Social Welfare Services through the mandate granted to the National Department of Social Development which is implemented by the provincial counterparts including KwaZulu-Natal Province.
  • The official was initially placed under the Directorate: Families.
  • The achievement of the official was to finalize and get the Women's Strategy approved in the Department.
  • Monitored legislative developments, ensuring timely adaptation of policies in response to changes.
