Summary

Azania Mbali Sengwayo is a dedicated Pan Africanist Radical Feminist Lesbian and Social Justice Activist with a strong commitment to advancing rights and representation for marginalized communities. Recognized as the 2015 Heroine of the Year by DIVA magazine, Azania has been instrumental in various initiatives focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for LBQ women, participating in the Fredskorpset (Norec) Young Feminist Exchange Programme across Norway, Zimbabwe, and South Africa from 2017 to 2018.

In her current roles, she serves as Secretary on the board of the Forum for the Empowerment of Women and Co-Chair of Thuli Home. Azania has a rich history in youth advocacy, having previously coordinated youth initiatives for Parents Families and Friends of South African Queers (PFSAQ) and served as Advocacy and Communications Manager at Queerwell. Additionally, she was the South Africa Coordinator for Just Associates and Executive Director of Vaal LGBTI, an organization recognized as the Best Youth Organization.

Azania also works as a marketing consultant for several companies, including Quadcare and MediRite. Her activism spans critical issues such as LGBTIAQ+ rights, gender-based violence, climate justice, and feminist alternative economics. Currently, she is a fellow at the Ford Foundation's Regional Fellowship Programme, furthering her impact in social justice advocacy.
