My current objectives and mandate as Senior Manager is to support Transnet’s supply chain function towards attainment of a best –in-class status and ensuring commercial leadership for strategic sourcing by developing supplier economic indicators and cost models focusing on capital optimisation and cost savings. Lead commercial aspects of supplier negotiations; oversee the commercial leg of the tender process for large contracts, and to ensure that supply chain processes across Transnet are in line with world-class standards. As the Commercial Manager I serve as project manager and internal consultant on key initiatives including iSCM transformation projects, thought leader on supply chain management processes to ensure security of supply that meet Transnet’s current and future business requirements. I also assist the Executive Manager and Group Chief Supply Chain Officer with strategy and operational support with business planning and financial management processes.

  • Monitor implementation of sourcing strategy implementation from a commercial/ contract point of view.

  • Lead commercial aspects of sourcing:
  • Provide commercial support for large contracts and capital projects
  • Manage the tender process for large contracts and capital projects
  • Manage commercial evaluation and adjudication of supplier bids; and
  • Agree supplier negotiation metrics with commodity managers and negotiate with successful tenderer in finalising all contract terms and conditions.(when asked/required to do so)
  • ISCM performance monitoring and reporting
  • Design and implement a formal performance monitoring program for the attainment of strategic objectives for iSCM across Transnet.
  • Conduct the performance planning sessions with input from the business plan to determine the applicable deliverables and targets, and track performance on an ongoing basis for iSCM across Transnet.
  • Consolidate reports on progress against budget, delivery of the benefits targets and action plans for strategic sourcing programme and highlight achievement of strategic and tactical sourcing targets on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis on OD and Group levels.
  • Consolidate reports on delivery against targets for iSCM in line with agreed dashboard format within Transnet Group structures like FINCO, iSCM council and ultimately, Exco.
  • Support ISCM strategic planning and financial management.
  • Support the Executive manager: iSCM strategy and Operational Support with specific aspects of strategic research, data analysis to input strategy formulation.
  • Coordinate the budgeting process for Group ISCM, linking financial spend to strategy; develop and implement cost centre management procedures for all functional areas of Group Supply chain Management
