• A 24-bedded ward with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:10. Working in this ward has helped me to gain a great deal of experience in the management of chronic conditions and in caring for the elderly with typical geriatric medical conditions. Care provision within the department supports a broad range of Clinical Specialties, which includes:
• Renal failure.
• Pneumothorax.
• Pneumonia.
• Cardiac conditions, including hypertension.
• Diabetic control.
• Urinary retention.
• Acute airway obstruction.
• Meningitis.
• Heart conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Initial assessment and continuous monitoring of the patient and clinical management of all the lines (central line, arterial line) removal of drains according to presenting condition

•Monitoring oxygen saturation and administer oxygen if required •Fluid management (Record input and output, Nasogastric tube drainage, vomit and urine output)

•Care of underwater seal drain •Naso- gastric tube feeding

•Urinalysis in all patients •Check hemoglobin level and reserve blood for transfusions •Collect blood specimens and send to the laboratory for analysis

•Observe vital signs (Temperature, pulse, respiratory rate and blood pressure)

• Administration of medication (oral, nasogastric, intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, rectal, virginal and nebulization)

•Tracheotomy care

•Supervision and care of patients with chronic conditions
