Summary

I am Dr Akeem Adewale Oyelana, a PhD degree holder in Administration (Public Administration). During my study at the University of Fort Hare, due to my excellent academic performance in my Master's degree program, and finished in record time, I was awarded bursaries from the Govern Mbeki Research and Development Centre (GMRDC), University of Fort Hare, South Africa to proceed for my PhD degree which I also finished in record time. I was a tutor of Business Management in 2011 and a mentor of a Master student from the Department of Public Administration in 2018/2019. I have mentored many Honours, Masters, and PhD students with regards to their projects, dissertations, and theses. I mentored them on how to write a good research work, corrected them particularly on where they were wrong and recommends on what should be done to improve their research works. In addition, I have published over 40 articles in high impact factor peer reviewed journals. I have presented research papers in conferences and also presented a paper in a colloquium programme. I have collaborated with a number of students and lecturers (for instance, Professors and Doctors among others) in writing articles both within and outside South Africa in order to add to knowledge, improve knowledge and disseminate information to improve the communities as a whole. Some of the information from my published articles have been cited in over 300 different academic research journals (ref to Googlescholar) which include: Journal of Economics, Journal of Economics and Behavioral Studies, International Journal of Educational Sciences, Journal of Social Sciences, Journal of Communication, Journal of Human Ecology etc. I have been invited to act as reviewer in the following journals: Journal of Economics, Journal of Social Sciences, Journal of Communication, Journal of Human Ecology etc. I am currently conducting research, supervising and mentoring postgraduate (Honours and Masters) students at Nelson Mandela University. Two Honours students were graduated under my supervision in 2022 and a master student will be graduating in December, 2023.

Interests

I am interested in this research assistant role with the African Programme because I believe that I am the best candidate for this position. Based on my research experience, I have published over 45 research papers with over 300 citations (check Google scholar). I have presented academic papers in conferences. In terms of academic qualifications, I have acquired B.Com (Hons) in Business Management, Master of Public Administration (MPA) and PhD in Administration (Public Administration) from the University of Fort Hare, South Africa. In addition, as part of my role as a research assistant, I will be responsible for assisting in the research process by collecting experimental data, preparing presentations, and proofreading manuscripts. More importantly, as part of my key element in this role, I will be adhering to procedures and protocols provided by primary researchers.
I have good communication and mentoring/ tutoring skills, time management and organization. I have technical skills which include better understanding on how to use computer, I am very familiar with data collection and the ability to interpret data results. I am also a reviewer for many journals.
I am interested in this Research Assistant role because, I am willing to contribute my knowledge and skills in the growth and development of the Africa Programme at Chatham House. I am willing to bring innovation into the programme thereby improving the quality of manuscripts to be published, organise seminars and workshops where academic matters relating to independent policy research with a global reputation for influential and reliable analysis will be discussed among others.
