Aidan Balshaw

I am a determined Medical Science and Pharmacology graduate with a desire to excel at what I do. I am fascinated by human physiology, the progression of diseases and the power of pharmaceuticals to modulate existing processes to improve the lives of many.

My comprehensive undergraduate degree in Medical Sciences allows me to approach a given problem from multiple perspectives. My Honours degree in Pharmacology has given me the opportunity to acquire skills in LC-MS/MS method development as well as growing my enthusiasm in finding solutions for various disease areas.

The accomplishments of others have shown me that through hard work and dedication, my daily effort can truly benefit the lives of people afflicted by diseases. This inspires me to overcome the challenges I encounter and to hard-work to find effective ways to further the frontiers of medical science.

I am eager to expand my knowledge and skills in the process of innovating novel methods to solve the health issues that are encountered in South African today. I believe that as we strive to grow and improve ourselves, we have a responsibility to help uplift others and encourage them to do the same.

• Placed 15th on the 2020 Dean’s list for the University of Pretoria’s Natural and Agricultural Science Faculty third years.
• Elected as Head Boy of the Student Executive Council in 2016.
• First Team Rugby 2016.
• Awarded Director's Trophy for Leadership and the Good Fellowship Award in 2016.
• Ranked within the top 5% of learners in 5 subjects in the 2016 NSC November examinations.
• Placed third academically in the Cornwall Hill College class of 2016.
