Professor Nkhensani Chauke-Malinga is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with special interest rhinoplasty and nasal reconstruction, facial plastics surgery and body contouring procedures. She is the previous head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, University of Pretoria, which is a first for a female in South Africa. She is also the first female examiner at the Collage of Medicine South Africa(CMSA) for Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. She is the secretary of the South African Rhinoplasty Society (SORSSA ). She hold a membership to the newly launched Pan African cancer research institute and is one of the few South Africans who holds membership with the Rhinoplasty Society of Europe. She recently acquired a “High value surgical systems” certificate from Harvard, school of public health (2022).
She obtained fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2017 from the Colleges of Medicine South Africa, with clinical training done at the University of the Witwatersrand. She cut her teeth in rhinoplasty as a fellow under Professor Enrico Robotti in Italy in 2018-2019 at Villa Sant’apollonia. As part of her fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, she also rotated at Villa Bella clinic for Aesthetic breast surgery, Oculoplastic and Body contouring training by Drs Giovani and Chiara Botti and botox and filler training from Dr Frédéric Braccini in Milan.
A graduate of the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA), Prof. Chauke-Malinga passed her MBcHB in 2003 with distinctions in Obstetrics, Gynecology, Family Medicine and Internal Medicine. She also obtained the Smith and Nephew student of the year award in orthopaedics in 2003. Her academic roots are in Bachelor of Medical and Laboratory science where she majored in Virology at the University of Limpopo, previously known as University of the North in 1998. She also holds an Advanced Business Management certificate obtained from Manchester University in 2006.
Prof. Chauke-Malinga is a member of the European Rhinoplasty Society, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the European Academy of Plastic Surgery Society.

My responsibilities typically include consulting with patients to discuss their aesthetic or reconstructive goals, conducting thorough assessments and examinations, developing personalized treatment plans, performing surgical procedures with precision and care, providing post-operative care and follow-up appointments, ensuring patient safety and satisfaction throughout the entire treatment process, maintaining accurate medical records, collaborating with other healthcare professionals when necessary, staying current with advancements in the field through continuing education, and managing the administrative aspects of their practice such as scheduling, billing, and marketing. Additionally, to strive to uphold high ethical standards and maintain a strong reputation within their community.
My responsibilities included but were not limited to; overseeing the educational program for plastic surgery registrars, developing and implementing curriculum to ensure comprehensive training in all aspects of plastic surgery, supervising resident rotations and clinical experiences, mentoring and providing guidance to residents, conducting evaluations to assess resident progress, coordinating with other departments and faculty to facilitate interdisciplinary training opportunities, promoting research and scholarly activities among residents, and maintaining accreditation standards for the plastic surgery training program. Moreover, the involvement in undergraduate teaching and program formulation was also a requirement.
Additionally, you may be involved in administrative duties such as budget management, program development, and strategic planning for the department.
Diagnosis and prevention of mother to child HIV transmission
